Background:
#NoBanNoWalls #EndGunViolence #NewZealandMosqueAttack
While praying, 50 people were gunned down by a white supremacist terrorist. As we mourn and stand with our Muslim brothers and sisters, we must face white supremacy and gun violence in America.
White supremacy and racism are in the White House. Trump leverages presidential power to inflict hate – starting with the Muslim ban and continuing with revoking Dreamers/TPS status, defunding programs to tackle white supremacy, speaking up for Nazis in Charlottesville, family separation, and declaring a national emergency to build the ultimate racist monument – his border wall. Congress must make a full-throated rebuke of white supremacy/racism starting with revoking the Muslim Ban and overriding Trump’s veto, thereby stopping emergency wall funding.
America is awash in gun violence. In addition to mass shootings that terrorize the country and our children, gun violence robs communities daily. Congress must break through their paralysis of inaction and work to save lives starting with passing background checks (in the Senate) and an assault weapons ban.
Members of Congress have the honor of serving their country to help people. They must look past partisanship and power, do their duty, and work to protect us from white supremacy and gun violence.
