WE WANT POLICIES FOR THE PEOPLE
As we come to the end of 2018, it is important to remember why we do this work. We do this work for policies that help people. Not for politicians, parties, or power. For people. So, we may lead better lives. In the immediate we want policies to:
- protect human rights at the border, in Yemen, and for victims of abuse
- protect rule of law in Mueller’s investigation
- protect our healthcare so we may stop living in fear of preexisting conditions
In the big picture we want policies that will help human rights, healthcare, voting rights, women’s rights, black lives matter, LGTBQ rights, immigrants, those with disabilities, survivors, gun violence prevention, diversity, and truth.
We understand that for the next Congress we will likely only pass progressive policies through the House. But we must push for progressive policies in the House, to make the case to elect progressive law makers at all levels of government who will enact policies to improve peoples’ lives.
We are proud to do this work – to work for progressive policies that help people.
And we will keep working until this is a reality for all.
ACTION ONE: GO TO RESIST TRUMP TUESDAY
Join us at #ResistTrumpTuesday on Tuesday, December 18, at 11:30 in the courtyard of Senator Merkley’s office, 121 SW Salmon St, Portland, OR 97204. We will thank him for the brave work he is doing at the border, shining a light on the human rights violations for which we all must take responsibility and work to make sure never happens again. We will meet with Senator Merkley’s staff and insist he:
- Publicly state NO money should go to the wall or additional funding should to border patrol agents in the spending bill
- Lobby Senate Leadership to have the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women’s Act (like H.R. 6545)Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act S.2644) included in the spending bill
- Do what he can in the next Congress to end the human rights abuses at the border and safeguard our healthcare.

“My name is [Name]. I am a constituent and I and live in ZIP code [number]. I am appalled at what is going on at the border, frustrated that Trump and his GOP cannot govern. I ask that the Senator to do three things: 1) go on record that zero dollars should go to funding the wall and that no additional money should go to border patrol agents. 2) lobby Senate Leadership to add the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act (S.2644) and Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women’s Act to the must pass spending bill 3) do what he can in the next Congress to end human rights abuses at the border and safeguard our healthcare.
