Veteran Casualties of Racist Terror

The choice is clear. Either abolish the filibuster or lose any chance of preserving our democracy.

Background

Today, as we remember those who've died in combat, we pause to reflect upon those Black World War 1 veterans who were lynched as they made their way home. The racist terror inflicted upon veterans continues, as Latino veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan deported during the last Administration remain far from home, and veterans are among those gassed and beaten standing up for Black lives.

Together, we honor all victims of racist terror, whose stories are too often forgotten. Today, we reflect upon our tragic history of racist terror, knowing it continues as Black men, women, and children are murdered on our streets and in their homes in police acts of racist terror, while all BIPOC communities are terrorized by daily acts of racist aggression.

Together, we reflect upon what was and continues to be done to veterans when they return, already traumatized by the horrors of combat, as well as to non-veteran members of our society. Together, we renew our pledge to do all we can to end racist policies, racist terror, and racist violence.
