About Indivisible Oregon

Volunteers fighting fascism since 2017

Who We Are

Indivisible Oregon is one of the longest-running Indivisible groups in Oregon, taking action to defy the MAGA agenda every week since January 2017. We are grassroots and entirely led by volunteers.

We host in-person meetups in the Greater Portland area, spanning three U.S. Congressional districts. We develop calls-to-action and host statewide virtual events for all Oregonians.

While we are independent, we follow national guidance from the experts at Indivisible and Swing Left and we are proud to be active in their nationwide networks.

Our democracy is under threat, but we will not yield to fascism. We are standing together and fighting back in defense of our rights, our communities, and our values.  Join us!

  • Calls to Action

IO's policy team has researched and published over 1,000 calls-to-action on the IO website, weekly newsletter, and over social media.

  • Events

IO volunteers have organized over 420 advocacy and election events. We advocate routinely, in-person, to our members of U.S. Congress or their staff.

  • Voter Outreach

We host door-knocking, phonebanks, and letter parties for pivotal elections. We've recruited, supervised and supported over 30,000 volunteer shifts at our events.

FAQs

  • Indivisible is a social movement and a national organization that aims to resist the Trump agenda and advance progressive policies. The Indivisible national organization employs a professional team of organizers, policy analysts, campaigners, digital and data specialists, and other experts who provide resources for grassroots volunteer leaders across the country (and around the world!)  Learn more about Indivisible national.

  • Indivisible Oregon is a grassroots, volunteer-led group that has been implementing pro-democracy actions and voter outreach since 2017. Most Indivisible Oregon leaders are in the greater Portland area.

  • Anyone, anywhere can start an Indivisible group (i.e., a chapter) at any time.  Indivisible groups are grassroots, volunteer-led, and autonomous. Each volunteer-led Indivisible group chooses its own priorities, strategies and actions. As of December 2025, there are thousands of Indivisible groups across the country, with dozens based in Oregon.

We’re thrilled by the recent surge of new Indivisible groups in Oregon and across the country! This moment calls for widespread nonviolent civic action — and people everywhere are rising to meet it.

We’re proud to partner closely with other Indivisible and activist groups: co-hosting events and actions, complementing each other’s activities, and sharing resources. Many of us are involved in multiple Indivisible and activist groups.

  • No. Although we make resources available for statewide advocacy and collaborate with other groups, we are not a hub or umbrella organization.

That role is ably filled by the Consolidated Oregon Indivisible Network (COIN), which offers statewide coordination and information on other Indivisible groups.

  • We hope you’ll join us at Indivisible Oregon! That said — this is not a zero-sum decision — just the opposite. Many of us are involved in multiple Indivisible and activist groups. These ties make our movement stronger.

All Oregonians are welcome to join our virtual events and use our statewide Calls-to-Action. In addition to online actions, we encourage folks to find in-person connections, whether at Indivisible Oregon’s Portland-area events or with another local group.

  • We are working to defy the Trump agenda and stop MAGA’s authoritarian power grab.

We focus on advocacy and elections at the federal level. We work to elect Democratic Members of Congress, and we push them to fight hard for our freedoms and our democracy.

  • Indivisible Oregon supports nonviolent, widespread protest as a critical tool to protect our freedoms and restore our democracy. We occasionally organize protests, often in partnership with other Indivisible and activist groups. When we do so, we attempt to make clear that IO is an organizer.

It’s not always obvious who is hosting any given rally. We encourage participants to always vet a rally carefully before attending and follow safe and nonviolent practices.

Some community members have asked about Indivisible Oregon’s connection to rallies organized by Rainbow Bloc (formerly known as Rose City Indivisible). Please find more information here.

  • Swing Left is a national organization founded after Trump was elected in 2017.  Swing Left aims to win elections for Democrats by making it easy for anyone to impact the elections that determine the balance of power in our country.

Like Indivisible, Swing Left offers resources and guidance to grassroots, volunteer-led local groups. Unlike Indivisible, Swing Left focuses entirely on elections and coordinates with the Democratic Party.  Learn more about Swing Left.

  • Indivisible National and Swing Left are distinct, autonomous, professionally-led national organizations.

Indivisible Oregon is a volunteer-led local group that uses guidance and resources from both Indivisible National and Swing Left.  We are a member organization of both networks.

When planning and implementing programs relating to policy or advocacy, Indivisible Oregon looks to Indivisible National

When planning and implementing programs relating to elections and voter outreach, Indivisible Oregon’s uses strategies and tools from Swing Left.

Network

We are based in the Portland Metro area, and we are proud to partner with other Indivisible and activist groups nearby and across Oregon since our founding.  We co-host events, share resources, and promote each other’s work.

Many of our volunteers are also leaders in other local groups, including:

We value our strong ties with the Indivisible community and enjoy lifting others.  We believe our movement is strongest when we stand united against Trump and MAGA.

History

Indivisible Oregon (IO) was founded by a handful of experienced volunteer activists in January 2017, as part of a nationwide groundswell of anti-Trump activism.

We immediately began hosting weekly “Resist Trump Tuesdays” at our U.S. Senators’ courtyards in Portland. Our group grew quickly when increasing numbers of participants joined these events and jumped in to organize.

Indivisible Oregon volunteer leaders have been organizing events and actions almost nonstop every month for over 8 years.  We have also been an active Swing Left group since early 2017.  We are proud to be one of many grassroots, volunteer-led Indivisible groups in Oregon.
