Do Something

Marches, protests and picketing are effective political actions, but always just a piece of a larger plan: We need sustained, creative, multi-faceted resistance. Find actions that fit your budget, mobility, and comfort.

  • Hearing directly from your Members of Congress can help you feel more like an active participant in our government. You may be able to ask your representative a question directly.

Some town halls are in person and some are by telephone. Find a town hall event.

  • They need to hear from us! It can take as little as 2 minutes. Our personal stories give them ammunition in policy debates.

    • Tell them what you are concerned about and what policy areas you hope they will focus on.

    • Tell them how you would like them to vote on upcoming legislation.

If your representatives did something good that you’re happy with:

    • Thank them and their staff! They’re people too, and positive feedback helps sustain them in the fight.

Our Policy Team makes these calls easy with phone numbers and scripts.

Need a little more support? Download 5 Calls for reminders and one-click phone numbers.

  • Can’t quite make the phone calls happen? Writing is good too. Physical mail or fax is harder to ignore, but email also works!

Read suggestions from our Policy Team to write or email.

Resistbot makes it very easy to send physical mail, fax, or email to Congress and the Supreme Court, even via text message on your phone.

Send postcards, such as ones from The Majority Project, to remind congresspeople of popular, common-ground policies, or to demand they oppose unchecked federal police power.

  • Some phone banks gather support for candidates in crucial races, and others are a new long-term approach to rebuild trust with the Democratic party. Ground Truth phone banks involve real conversations with voters, where you listen deeply to their concerns and opinions, not push a candidate.

Find a phone bank or Ground Truth event.

  • Our letter-writing team sent out over 15,000 letters to voters in swing states in 2025, helping to win key elections for

    • Wisconsin Supreme Court

    • Pennsylvania Supreme Court

    • Virginia Governor

The current campaign is urging people to register to vote ahead of the 2026 midterms.

    How to get involved:

  • These are smaller, low-key, usually weekly events that remind our neighbors that they’re not alone! Sometimes there is music or fun inflatable costumes. The vast majority of drivers have positive responses!

Bring a sign or just your smile; some groups have a library of signs you can choose from.

Contact us if you’d like to create and donate some signs for others to use. Invite your friends and have a sign-making party!

Find Indivisible Oregon’s weekly Honk & Waves.

  • Many corporations seem to only be swayed by money, so let’s sway them with our money.

Boycott companies that are behaving badly or going along with others’ bad behavior. Tell them why you will no longer spend your money there.

See our list of active boycotts.

Buycotts are the opposite of a boycott, where we choose to financially support companies that are standing against fascism, especially small businesses.

  • Help reach people who are not online!

Upcoming major event? Looking for more members for your local Indivisible group?

    • Print and post flyers on telephone poles, or in your local coffee shop or community board.

    • Leave business cards or postcards on grocery store shelves

    • Get creative!

Get flyers for No Kings III, or pick up other materials at a general members meeting.

  • Show them what activism can look like!

Tell them about the letter-writing event you went to last week and how fun it was to chat with other attendees. Tell them how excited you are about your new protest sign idea. Invite them to join you.

  • Join our experienced Ground Truth team and knock on doors with a friend! Engage with empathy and deep listening to connect with all sorts of voters.

Other canvassing events are more traditional, to increase support for a particular candidate. Reach out to a candidate you’re excited about and offer to help them!

Not up for canvassing? Make small talk, mentioning current events or actions you’re taking as part of your daily life. Normalize talking about “political” content. You’ll be surprised how receptive a lot of people are!

  • Do businesses in your neighborhood have a plan if federal agents show up? Do they know their rights?

Help them protect themselves while also showing support for our vulnerable neighbors with Signs of Solidarity.

  • Many children are afraid to go to school where masked federal agents may show up at any time to scare them or their parents.

Volunteer at your child’s or grandchild’s school to be a crossing guard, stand with children at bus stops, and generally be a trusted adult to support them when they are out in the neighborhood.

  • Extend the reach of political awareness to new places.

    Some Suggestions:

If you can, buy from local independent bookstores or websites that support them! Ex. Bookshop.org for physical or e-books, or Libro.fm for audiobooks.

  • Whether it's a knit-in at the ICE building or building protest puppets, use your imagination and creativity to bring awareness to what's going on. Join our Art Team, find a Craftivism event, or gather your friends for your own ideas.

  • There are so many groups doing great work that could use your support. Here are just a few:
