We Must Stand United against A Second Trump Administration

QUICK READ: When progressives fracture, the right always wins. The November election will be the most consequential election of our lifetime. We cannot allow legitimate differences about policy to open up the door to a second Trump presidency.

BACKGROUND

The next election will be the most consequential in our history. Despite our differences, progressives must remain unified to prevent a second Trump administration.

In November, we choose not just a head of state but a slate of Presidential appointments to the justice system, the state department, the national security council, the courts and elsewhere that will influence the US and the world.

Another Trump administration would instead establish an authoritarian regime laced with racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, and religious bigotry. Voter suppression, election denial, conspiracy theories, and open calls for violence will be fully normalized. Millions of immigrants will be rounded up, caged, and deported. The military and federal government will be turned against citizens and journalists. Wealth inequality will grow infinitely worse through corporate entitlements and more tax cuts for the rich.

Gains made in reproductive freedom, police reform, voting rights, women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, urban renewal, and more would be replaced with draconian policies aimed at turning back  the clock by an administration filled with those cheering on neo-Nazis and authoritarian regimes abroad.

Trump would also further move SCOTUS rightward, threatening or eliminating Social Security, affordable health care and prescriptions, college debt relief, and climate change.

When progressives fracture, the right wins.

ACTION One: Call the Senate.

Script for Oregon Senators

SEN. MERKLEY: Portland office: 503-326-3386 | D.C. office: 202-224-3753

My name is [--] and I'm a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

As your constituent, I am calling on you to address the need for unity constantly between now and November. We must defend democracy itself and all those whose lives will be impacted in terrible ways under what will be a fully authoritarian Trump regime. I am also asking you to impress on President Biden that, given Trump’s past, present and likely future behavior, sharing classified materials with him prior to the election would be completely inappropriate and even dangerous.
