MAGA’S RECONCILIATION BILL WILL KILL US

QUICK READ: Trump and the MAGA Republicans continue their fascist power grab: ruling by the bullies, for the billionaires. Their reconciliation bill will give massive tax cuts to billionaires, further bloat the military, and pay for more kidnappings and deportations.  To fund it, they intend to deprive Americans of the basic necessities we need to prosper. Their bill slashes food and health programs, causing thousands of preventable deaths. Meanwhile they continue to kidnap our neighbors and send them to gulags in El Salvador. This is not the America we want to live in. Our Members of Congress must use all legislative and performative tools available to whip up popular resistance to its many atrocities and prevent its passage.

BACKGROUND

MAGA Republicans just accepted a budget resolution giving Trump massive tax cuts for his billionaire friends and a blank check to further militarize immigration through detention, deportation, and rendition, while slashing and crippling vital health and nutrition programs, like SNAP (serving 42+ million) and Medicaid (serving 72+million), for families and communities—a political loser.

Reducing already-meager daily SNAP payments from $6.20 to $4.80 and hollowing out Medicaid will force millions to suffer, starve, and die unnecessarily—as demonstrated by recent studies showing how Medicaid expansion saved the lives of 19,200 older Americans from 2014-2017 and would have prevented 13,300 premature deaths annually had all states expanded their programs.

MAGA Republicans will also have non-citizens’ blood—and possibly citizens’—on their hands should reconciliation pass. The administration recently ratcheted up its reign of terror against non-citizens:

·      Invading private agency records to locate those to target;

·      Revoking student visas without notice;

·      Using masked ICE agents to abduct people off the streets;

·      Imprisoning them in far-away states most likely to rubber-stamp its actions;

·      Renditioning them for life to an El Salvador gulog without due process, in violation of court orders.

The billions more provided will allow this administration to beef up its gestapo-like forces, build massive private prisons here and abroad, and pay El Salvador’s dictator to torture and slowly kill those renditioned. Thus starts America’s policy of state terror, which we must identify as such and stop.

We don’t want to live in this America. Our Members of Congress must use all legislative and performative tools available to whip up popular resistance to the bill’s many atrocities and prevent its passage.

ACTION One: Call the Senate.

SEN. MERKLEY: Portland office: 503-326-3386 | D.C. office: 202-224-3753

My name is [--] and I'm a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

MAGA’s budget reconciliation package is anathema to the America your constituents want. I want my MoC to use all legislative and performative tools available to whip up popular resistance to the package’s many atrocities—parliamentary procedures, sit-ins, hearings, and daily press conferences with constituents whose lives will be upended; organizing anti-oligarchy rallies; signing on to amicus briefs; and whatever other creative actions will capture Americans’ attention—to slow down the process and prevent its passage, since how long it lingers is inversely related to its likely enactment.

How can you support your party’s extremely unpopular plan that pays for billionaires’ huge handouts and Trump’s kidnapping and deportation of community members to gulogs in El Salvador by slashing food and health programs for millions of American families that will cause thousands of preventable deaths? Your constituents want none of this. If you continue down this path, you soon may find yourself unemployed.
