Do Our Part. Save The Post Office.

Background

Good news: calling Congress works! For weeks we have been demanding that the postal service be protected from Trump’s predations. Now Speaker Pelosi is pulling out the stops.Members are returning from recess next week to pass protections for the postal service The House Oversight Committee has moved Postmaster General DeJoy’s appearance to August 24 — opening day of the Republican convention.

Pelosi also called for a national day of action: House members will appear at local post offices to show America the damage already done.

All of this is good news, but nothing is certain yet. We must keep up the pressure on Congress to protect the postal service and pass the Heroes Act. Then we must redouble our efforts to dump Trump, ditch Mitch and flip the Senate on Nov. 3

President Obama said it: Trump is “kneecapping” the postal service to suppress votes. We must win this election, and that means save the post office, so be it.

Then in a Biden/Harris America, our leaders will work for elections the American people can trust. Where dark money is gone from the mix. Voting rights for minorities are protected. And a “we the people” democracy blooms again.

I am thrilled and relieved that Speaker Pelosi is moving to protect the postal service. I am calling on you to support the House by:

  • Demanding that the Senate vote on “Delivering for America,” the House bill that will prohibit any changes to postal service procedures in place as of Jan. 1, 2020.
  • Holding events at offices to show America exactly how the post offices are being damaged;
  • Calling for Postmaster General DeJoy’s resignation.
  • Passing the Heroes Act.

I am thrilled that the House Oversight Committee has called the Postmaster General DeJoy to appear on Aug. 24, one month earlier than planned. I ask you to:

  • Hold press conferences to highlight damage to local post offices in your district;
  • Vote for “Delivering for America” which will prohibit any changes to postal service procedures in place as of Jan. 1, 2020;
  • Fight for passage of the Heroes Act, including protections for the postal service and for making voting safe from the virus, intimidation and voter suppression.

The Republican Party has crossed the line into group treason if it does not stop Trump and Postmaster General DeJoy from dismantling the post office. Trump and his enablers are obviously trying to destroy the elections and win at all costs. Stand up. Speak out. Or forever be known as a gutless enabler.
