MOVING FORWARD

Background

As we move into a new year and a new Administration there’s much to feel hopeful about.

More Americans are getting vaccinated every day.  We can work for an end to medical racism that has caused COVID to ravage Black communities.

A COVID relief bill was finally passed. It’s far less than is needed and missing vital protections like paid sick leave.  We can demand that Congress provide meaningful relief to people suffering from the pandemic.

With Biden’s inauguration we can finally get off the roller-coaster and escape the carnival.  We can expect stability to return to the structure, management and oversight of the institutions that make our government function.

Republicans will try to undermine the new administration, but there is hope that the elections in Georgia will free us from McConnell’s tyranny.  And we can work now to end the current rule of the white nationalist minority.  We can ensure true democracy by ending racist gerrymandering, voter suppression, and intimidation.

Trump is pardoning criminals who lied and obstructed justice on his behalf.  He is encouraging violence, and his seditious supporters are attempting a coup. We can demand accountability.   Trump must not be pardoned.  Congress must investigate acts of sedition.

1. Call the Senate.

Script Oregon Senators

SEN. MERKLEY: Portland office: 503-326-3386 | D.C. office: 202-224-3753

My name is [--] and I'm a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

I want to thank the Senator for his refusal to vote for the defense authorization bill without an up-or-down vote on providing $2000 relief checks to Americans who are struggling financially with the pandemic.

I also ask him to:

  • Press for more meaningful COVID relief including survivor benefits, paid sick leave, and recurring $2000/month payments to all Americans.
  • Insist on accountability for acts of corruption and sedition.

Congress must investigate the actions by Trump and his Congressional collaborators aimed at undermining Biden’s legitimate election immediately and ask a 3-judge panel to appoint a special counsel, if necessary. There should be no pardons for either Trump or those who have colluded with him.

SEN. WYDEN: Portland office: 503-326-7525 | D.C. office: 202-224-5244

D.C switchboard: 202-224-3121

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], [state], [zip code].

It’s beyond hypocritical to give trillions of dollars to the very rich and large corporations and deny a basic means of survival during a pandemic to regular Americans. I’m asking the Senator to think of the needs of their constituents and press for more meaningful COVID relief including survivor benefits, paid sick leave, and recurring $2000/month payments to all Americans. I am also asking them to remember that true patriotism means protecting our democracy. They must demand accountability for acts of corruption and sedition. Congress must investigate the actions by Trump and his Congressional enablers aimed at undermining Biden’s legitimate election immediately. There should be no pardons for either Trump or those who have colluded with him.

2. Call the House.

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

I want to thank the Representative for her refusal to vote for the defense authorization bill until $2000 relief checks to Americans who are struggling financially with the pandemic are negotiated.

I’m also asking her to:

  • Press for more meaningful COVID relief including survivor benefits, paid sick leave, and recurring $2000/month payments to all Americans.
  • Insist on accountability for acts of corruption and sedition.

Congress must investigate the actions by Trump and his Congressional collaborators aimed at undermining Biden’s legitimate election immediately. There should be no pardons for either Trump or those who have colluded with him.

Welcome to Congress. As a constituent, I ask that you:

  • Think of the needs of his constituents and press for more meaningful COVID relief including survivor benefits, paid sick leave, and recurring $2000/month payments to all Americans.
  • Insist on accountability for acts of corruption and sedition.

Eugene office: 541-465-6732 | DC office: 202-225-6416

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

I want to thank the Representative for his vote to increase COVID stimulus payments to $2000. However, I’m very disappointed that he voted to override the veto of the defense authorization bill. The veto was an attempt to get that same $2000 to Americans who are struggling financially with the pandemic, and my Representative surrendered to political expediency. I’m now asking him to press for more meaningful COVID relief including survivor benefits, paid sick leave, and recurring $2000/month payments to all Americans.

He must also demand accountability for acts of corruption and sedition. Congress must investigate the actions by Trump and his Congressional enablers aimed at undermining Biden’s legitimate election immediately. There should be no pardons for either Trump or those who have colluded with him.

Script for Kurt Schrader (OR-05)

Salem office: 503-588-9100 | DC office: 202-225-5711

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

I’m very disappointed in my Representative’s vote against increasing COVID stimulus payments and his vote for the veto of the defense authorization bill. These were both attempts to help regular Americans survive financially during a pandemic and my Representative surrendered to political expediency. I’m asking the Representative to:

  • Think of the needs of his constituents and press for more meaningful COVID relief including survivor benefits, paid sick leave, and recurring $2000/month payments to all Americans.
  • Insist on accountability for acts of corruption and sedition.
