***IMMEDIATE ACTION***VOTE NO TOMORROW ON UNQUALIFIED LIAR, FRANK BISIGNANO, FOR SOCIAL SECURITY administrator [5-5-25]
The Trump-Musk “DOGE” mass firings and SSA office closures have created jammed phone lines, long wait times, and a website on the verge of collapse, but confirmation tomorrow of Frank Bisignano, a self-proclaimed “DOGE person” and ultra-rich former Wall Street executive, as Social Security Administrator will make everything worse.
At his confirmation hearing Bisignano lied about his involvement in this DOGE-manufactured chaos–his frequent contacts with senior SSA executives and his role in appointing Wall Street buddy Michael Russo to lead the DOGE team. Despite Senator Wyden’s best efforts to expose these lies–for which we thank him–the Finance Committee refused to hear the whistleblower’s testimony.
Trump likely chose him because he’s known for implementing mass employee layoffs and a huge compensation package for himself–which also strongly suggests a vote for him is a vote to destroy Social Security.
I know Senators Wyden and Merkley will vote against this nomination, but I implore you to impress on your Democratic colleagues the need for a united front–on this and all subsequent nominations–to demonstrate the Democratic Party is truly working for the American people. Right now that message is muddled. If Trump is destroying our institutions and democracy, how could all Democrats have voted to confirm Marco Rubio? Or 16 Democrats to confirm election-denier David Perdue–including Cory Booker who spoke eloquently against the administration for 25 hours just days earlier?
To express outrage at the Trump administration’s cruel, unconstitutional behavior, you and your colleagues must also use all available Senate procedures to stall every nominee and regularly find creative ways to keep its excesses front and center, like today’s Hands Off Social Security Rally.
ACTION One: Call the Senate.
