Make an impact in 2 minutes
have a big impact
Make a two-minute phone call to your U.S. Representative and your U.S. Senators and urge them to take specific action on a timely issue. We provide scripts to make it easy. Just select one of the Actions below to get started.
Why is this so important? Our phone calls fire up our Members of Congress, stiffen their spines, and push them to fight harder. We let them know that we're paying attention – and we have their back when they go out on a limb. Make sure to call your own U.S. Representative and both Senators – they are the ones who represent you!
LOCAL RESTAURANTS, JOBLESS NEED HELP
Local, small restaurants are heading towards what an industry coalition calls an “85% extinction event” if they don’t get government help. Oregon’s own Rep. Earl Blumenauer worked with Portland restauranteurs to come up with the RESTAURANT Act. It gives priority to minority- and women-owned restaurants, who make up a much larger share of owners than in any other industry. The House wrapped the bill into the $2.2billion revised HEROES Act. Now 50 Senators, including 11 Republicans are RESTAURANT Act co-sponsors.
TO PROTECT DEMOCRACY, THERE MUST BE ACCOUNTABILITY
Donald Trump has committed crimes that have inflicted great damage on our democracy for his personal benefit. He and his cronies must be held accountable. This is not revenge; failure to act would constitute a subversion of justice.
A BUDGET TO BUILD BACK BETTER
A budget is a moral document, expressing our values. We are counting on Congress to help us with a budget and COVID relief that will help America build back better.
FLOUTING EXPERT ADVICE LETS COVID EXPLODE ACROSS THE U.S.
Vaccines are coming. But their benefit won’t soon stop the carnage. Covid has exploded nationwide. After giving trillions to the rich and corporations, help for the rest of America has stalled in the GOP-controlled Senate. Republicans must act for the common good.
Gratitude & Reflection
We are grateful for the progressive leadership of our Members of Congress; the responsiveness of their staffs; and our dedicated and delightful Indivisible Oregon volunteers and organizers. We ask our IO community to pause this Thanksgiving week and recognize that what we call the state of Oregon rests upon the historic land of numerous diverse tribal communities.
TRUMP WON’T CONCEDE. AND HE’S STILL ENDANGERING OUR DEMOCRACY.
Trump is hanging on by his fingernails, but he is still damaging our trust in elections. It’s time for Democrats, including our President-elect and our Members of Congress, to defend our democratic institutions forcefully, vocally and through Congressional action including investigation and censure. To stand up and call out this continued attempt at a coup for what it is.
TRUMP’S ATTEMPTED COUP MUST BE CONDEMNED AND INVESTIGATED
We did an amazing job getting out the vote and electing Biden by widest majority ever. Now, we must ensure Trump’s attempted coup is unsuccessful and Biden can govern.
GOP WILLINGLY SUBVERTS DEMOCRACY TO BUY TRUMP ANOTHER TERM
GOP leaders must condemn death threats against local elections officials for not supporting Trump’s attempts to steal the election and decry his bullying. It’s also time to address the structural racism permeating our electoral system, our responses to COVID and our dysfunctional economy.
WE NEED CONGRESSIONAL RULES THAT WORK FOR THE PEOPLE
We all deserve healthcare, housing, and food- especially in this pandemic. President-Elect Biden has plans to help us. Some can be done via executive order. But others require Congressional legislation. For meaningful legislation, to move this country forward we must update and reform Congressional rules.
TRUMP IS SABOTAGING A PEACEFUL TRANSITION AND PUTTING AMERICANS AT RISK
Trump’s refusing to concede his irrefutable election loss. Perhaps there’s a political upside for Republicans willing to play along with Trump’s narcissistic fantasy. But for the health, safety, and national security of the American people, there’s a huge downside. Trump’s unprecedented sabotage of the transition process puts us all at risk.
PASS A BUDGET FOR ALL THE PEOPLE
Now that Joe Biden won, the real work begins. Black, Indigenous and People of Color’s needs must be central to his administration and legislation, just as their votes were central to winning his presidency.
STOP TRUMP’S RANSACKING OF OUR INSTITUTIONS
We depend on government to keep us safe. We are especially vulnerable during presidential transitions, and we rely on out-going Administrations to make them as smooth as possible. Trump sabotages the current transition, while his GOP remains silent, complicit.
CONGRESS MUST ACT TO ENSURE ORDERLY TRANSITION AND PREVENT TRUMP’S ATTEMPTED COUP
On November 7th, Biden was declared president-elect. It is time for our members of Congress to demand that GSA Administrator Murphy, A-G Barr, and Secretary of State Pompeo stop encouraging Trump’s attempted coup.
PRESIDENT-ELECT BIDEN HAS A NATIONAL STRATEGY TO FIGHT COVID-19
President-elect Biden has a strategy to fight COVID-19 based on science and implemented by scientists and health care professionals. It’s time for Trump and his GOP enablers to end their dangerous and unprecedented obstruction of the peaceful transition of power and get out of his way.
KEEP FIGHTING FOR THE SOUL OF AMERICA
Trump and his GOP are roiling the waters to make us feel insecure about the election results. But they don’t scare us. We the people turned out in record numbers, despite obstacles, to cast our ballots. This wasn’t about one election, but about uncoupling America from racism to make America truly great.
Why call your Members of Congress
Members of Congress have told us repeatedly that our calls matter. When they meet with their colleagues in Congress, they say "I'm getting swamped with calls about this illegal power grab. We need to take action."
If you're represented by Democrats: They are our best defense in Washington DC. They can throw sand in the gears of the Trump regime by using tools such as parliamentary procedures. And they have the power to call attention to particular issues via press, social media, special events. In short: our elected officials have power, and we must push them to wield it.
If you're represented by Republicans: Our calls let them know just how unpopular their actions are. We make them nervous, even if they don't show it. We make it hard for them to take actions that hurt Americans.
Calling tips
State your name, your zip code or neighborhood, and why you're calling
Stick to one issue per call
Don't worry about getting pulled into a debate -- the staffer will simply document your message.
Be respectful. The person on the other end of the line is likely a staffer who handles numerous calls daily. Being polite makes your message more likely to be heard and taken seriously.
Use personal stories when possible. When you share how an issue affects you personally, or why it matters to you, your message is more likely to resonate and be remembered.
