Make an impact in 2 minutes
have a big impact
Make a two-minute phone call to your U.S. Representative and your U.S. Senators and urge them to take specific action on a timely issue. We provide scripts to make it easy. Just select one of the Actions below to get started.
Why is this so important? Our phone calls fire up our Members of Congress, stiffen their spines, and push them to fight harder. We let them know that we're paying attention – and we have their back when they go out on a limb. Make sure to call your own U.S. Representative and both Senators – they are the ones who represent you!
PROTECT OUR RIGHTS, NOT THE SENATE MINORITY'S
The rules governing S1's passage in the Senate will likely determine how other legislation that benefits us all is managed, as well as whether S1 becomes law. We stand with all those who want to protect us from the minority demand that a super, rather than a simple majority be required to pass any and all legislation in the Senate.
DC Statehood Is A Matter Of Racial Justice
Couched in typical code words and dog whistles, Republicans who oppose DC statehood are actually supporting a bulwark of racism and white supremacy. There are many reasons why DC statehood is the right thing to do. And ending the disenfranchisement of its citizens is an important step towards building a racially just society.
CONGRESS: KEEP WORKING TO IMPROVE OUR LIVES
The House continues to pass progressive legislation to improve our lives and extend our rights. The Senate must do likewise--quickly passing VAWA reauthorization, the Dream Act, and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, and extending the deadline for ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment and for applying for the Paycheck Protection Program.
LGBTQ RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS. PASS THE EQUALITY ACT.
We need federal protection for human rights. The Human Rights Campaign reported that half of U.S. states lack basic protections for LGBTQ people. LGBTQ rights are human rights, and it’s time for the Senate to acknowledge that by passing the Equality Act.
People to the Senate: Pass Anti-Racist Policing and Common Sense Gun Laws
The House just passed two important laws, one to curb police violence and one to curb gun violence. Despite broad popular support, they face an uphill climb in the Senate. Together, we can rally our Senators and thank our House Reps for their hard work.
FIGHT FOR A MORE ETHICAL, MORE DURABLE AND MORE INCLUSIVE DEMOCRACY
While Trump was evicted, we must now rebuild the democracy he butchered. Democrats are writing and passing bills to do just that. But the filibuster and voter suppression block the way. We must break through them to strengthen democracy.
WE HAVE THE POWER TO STOP RACIST VOTER SUPPRESSION
We voted in record numbers to win. Republicans noticed and are racing to pass racist voter suppression laws aided by the Supreme Court that upholds white supremacy and guts voting rights. We have the power to stop them by passing the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancements Act.
TO DISMANTLE WHITE SUPREMACY, WE MUST FIX THE FEDERAL JUDICIARY
To dismantle white supremacy, we must fix the federal judiciary. This requires both quickly filling the 90 open judgeships with attorneys who recognize and will work to protect the rights of everyday people over corporations and wealthy special interests and expanding the judiciary to combat the lengthy delays in receiving justice.
The Right To Unionize Helps Us Move Toward Economic Health And Justice
This week the House passed the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO) and it’s headed to the Senate. Ensuring the right to unionize will help America secure the economic health of workers and begin to move again towards economic justice.
Democrats pass $1.9 Trillion to Rescue People, Fight Virus
Today House Democrats follow Senate Democrats in passing Biden’s COVID relief bill. In a bet on trickle-up economic theory, individuals will receive 2/3rds of the aid. The plan also includes aid for state, tribal and local governments; direct grants for truly small businesses including child care centers and restaurants; a robust vaccination campaign; and making schools safe.
FACING A WAVE OF VOTER SUPPRESSION, AMERICA NEEDS THE JOHN LEWIS VOTING RIGHTS ACT
“Every eligible voter should be able to vote and have that vote counted. If you have the best ideas, you have nothing to hide. Let the people vote.” -- President Biden, March 7, 2021. We need to fight for the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
CONGRESS - KEEP GOING AFTER PASSING THE HISTORIC RELIEF PACKAGE
It has been seven weeks since the inauguration and so much to help us has been done. We must keep calling to help President Biden, Vice President Harris and Congress keep acting to #CareForUs.
For the People Act of 2021
Today, the initial phase of our campaign for the For the People Act ends. This landmark bill to restore our democracy strengthens access to and integrity of our elections, ends partisan gerrymandering, reforms campaign finance laws to empower us and stop dark money, large contributors, and foreign entities from flooding us with disinformation, imposes ethical codes on SCOTUS, and codifies congressional and administration ethics.
CALL FOR RACIAL JUSTICE AND DEMOCRACY IN AMERICA
As of this writing the House is preparing to vote on The For The People Act and The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. These bills are an answer to Jim Crow era voter suppression and deadly, racist police tactics, and the threats of voter suppression, dark money, and unethical officials. Enacting them is a vital step toward racial justice and preserving our democracy.
The For The People Act Strengthens Congressional Ethics
We deserve members of Congress who govern in our interests. But members of Congress are exempt from many federal ethics laws. The For the People Act provides strong legal guardrails against corrupting influences and thus protects our democracy and us all.
Why call your Members of Congress
Members of Congress have told us repeatedly that our calls matter. When they meet with their colleagues in Congress, they say "I'm getting swamped with calls about this illegal power grab. We need to take action."
If you're represented by Democrats: They are our best defense in Washington DC. They can throw sand in the gears of the Trump regime by using tools such as parliamentary procedures. And they have the power to call attention to particular issues via press, social media, special events. In short: our elected officials have power, and we must push them to wield it.
If you're represented by Republicans: Our calls let them know just how unpopular their actions are. We make them nervous, even if they don't show it. We make it hard for them to take actions that hurt Americans.
Calling tips
State your name, your zip code or neighborhood, and why you're calling
Stick to one issue per call
Don't worry about getting pulled into a debate -- the staffer will simply document your message.
Be respectful. The person on the other end of the line is likely a staffer who handles numerous calls daily. Being polite makes your message more likely to be heard and taken seriously.
Use personal stories when possible. When you share how an issue affects you personally, or why it matters to you, your message is more likely to resonate and be remembered.
