With just 100 days until Election Day, we are witnessing a coordinated effort to spread doubt, fear and confusion about our elections. Misinformation, political pressure on election officials and attempts to make voting seem complicated or uncertain are not happening by accident. They are designed to discourage participation.

Most major media outlets focused on the hundreds of lies Trump spewed before he got to the truth that was the essential purpose of Thursday's nationally televised speech. After blaming his loss in 2020 on China and vigorously promoting the vote-suppressing SAVE America Act, he said this:

“We're taking swift action to ensure that sensitive voter data is better protected so we can never be bought, we can never be hacked, and we can never watch a stolen election again.”

Attending a Honk & Wave is cathartic for both wavers and honkers. Wavers stand on a street corner with signs—often witty and sometimes pointed—and wave as cars pass. The motorists provide the honks; it's a call and response.

For wavers, it's a chance to do something in the face of troubling times. Instead of sitting home frustrated by the news, they gather with friends and neighbors, make signs, share laughs and spend a sane hour in an often insane world.
