QUICK READ: Our Constitution provides two ways to remove a president who poses a clear and present danger to the country—one by impeachment and the other through invocation of the 25th Amendment by the Vice-President and a Cabinet majority. While both are long shots, Congress cannot continue to ignore Trump’s multitude of high crimes and misdemeanors or his cognitive decline and bizarre, unhinged behavior. Instead, our Members of Congress must begin the process of removing him from office before it’s too late.

BACKGROUND

Donald Trump’s impeachable offenses began during the 2024 campaign and have continued unabated until today. 

Since taking office, our corrupt, power-abusing president has been upending the separation of powers and dismantling our democratic institutions to consolidate power, silence his critics, shield himself and his cronies from accountability, and greatly increase his wealth. In the process, he’s defied the courts; emasculated Congress; ignored the Constitution; committed treason, war crimes, and genocide; destroyed our world standing, and inflicted massive harm both here and abroad.

More recently, Trump’s exhibited signs of dementia and cognitive decline, and his public statements and outbursts are increasingly incoherent, volatile, profane, deranged, and threatening. His 17 offensive and meandering posts over 8 hoursMonday evening are further evidence of his mental unfitness and the need to keep him away from our nuclear weapons.

Americans are beginning to understand that Trump’s a clear and present danger to America and the world, and a majority now favor his removal. Congress must do everything it can to do so.

For the Cabinet and Vice President, the path is clear—use the 25th Amendment to remove him. Despite their likely refusal, Democrats must continue to push for impeachment.

Democrats need to chronicle all the ways in which Trump’s incoherence, erratic behavior, and corrupt and power-hungry administration put our country and the world at risk. They must demand investigation of all Trump’s misconduct, including his wars, and that Trump receive a complete neurological examination. They must also place the blame for inaction where it belongs—with the spineless GOP.
