ICE MUST BE ABOLISHED AND OUR ENTIRE IMMIGRATION SYSTEM OVERHAULED

QUICK READ: Trump’s mass deportation regime is wreaking havoc on communities across America. ICE and other immigration agents, often with assistance of local law enforcement, are warrantlessly invading homes, targeting families at bus stops, and raiding workplaces, causing fear of deportation and detention in every part of immigrant families’ daily lives. These unconscionable acts must be addressed by those seeking election in the midterms.

CONTENTS:

BACKGROUND

Under false pretenses of protecting the border and removing “the worst of the worst”, Trump’s lackeys unleashed a massive campaign of government-sanctioned violence and lawlessness against hardworking, law-abiding, productive non-white immigrants—tearing apart families, eclipsing prior administrations’ tallies of deaths and medical emergencies of those in ICE custody, killing innocent citizens and immigrants on our streets, and creating economic chaos everywhere.

The high-profile raids drawing thousands of protesters have been replaced by federal agents invading every corner of immigrants’ daily lives—arresting people at hospitals, bus stops, airports, outside schools, and along construction sites and truck stops—as they carried out their everyday routines

Arrests soared to record highs—43,000 in June, 50,000+ in July and August, 48,000+ in September—with less than 4% having violent criminal convictions and the vast majority, including thousands of children, accused only of violating civil immigration laws. ICE also summarily deported 25,000 to third countries with horrendous human rights records—an international law violation so far sanctioned by SCOTUS.

During Trump’s second term, over 1/3 of enforcement actions involved misconduct by agents. ICE also killed 11 of the 42 shot, used unmarked cars to ram people in traffic or off the road, brutalized protesters and observers, and completely disregarded the health and safety of those detained, which led to 57+ deaths—all with zero accountability, they got $240 billion from congressional Republicans to spend as they wished with no strings attached.

Americans don’t like Trump’s attempts at “ethnic cleansing” and neither should our politicians, who must, at a minimum, commit to both abolishing ICE and reforming our immigration laws—or be replaced.

My name is [--] and I'm a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

During this campaign season those seeking office must stand with immigrant communities, document ICE’s unconstitutional and illegal behavior, explain how to end these abuses, and promise, if elected, to: (1) prevent ICE’s continued violence and illegal behavior by clawing back its $240 billion in funding and redirecting it to meet the real needs of people for healthcare, food, and housing; (2) ensure all wrongdoers, at all levels, are investigated and held responsible for crimes committed on our streets, in ICE detention centers, in the removal process, and in the countries where immigrants are illegally sent; (2) abolish ICE entirely because it’s rotten to the core and incapable of being reformed; (3) work to pass the Dream and Promise Act which would create a pathway to citizenship for millions of DACA recipients and TPS holders at risk of being detained and deported.

Since your constituents rightly oppose Trump's mass deportation campaign and believe that immigrants' presence here is positive, your refusal to rein in ICE and speak out against it's excesses in unconscionable. I demand that, if you're in Congress after the midterms, you work to: (1) prevent ICE’s continued violence and illegal behavior by clawing back its $240 billion in funding and redirecting it to meet the real needs of people for healthcare, food, and housing; (2) ensure all wrongdoers, at all levels, are investigated and held responsible for crimes committed on our streets, in ICE detention centers, in the removal process, and in the countries where immigrants are illegally sent; (2) abolish ICE entirely because it’s rotten to the core and incapable of being reformed; (3) work to pass the Dream and Promise Act which would create a pathway to citizenship for millions of DACA recipients and TPS holders at risk of being detained and deported.
