Zero Funding in 2027 Budget for Trump’s Disgraceful Joint Mission Center
QUICK READ: Oppose the persecution of our own citizens and organizations called for under Trump’s Executive Order NSPM-7. Tell Congress to reject all funding for the Joint Mission Center and the historic crackdown on free speech and the right to protest it represents. Dissent, the cornerstone of democracy, is patriotic.

BACKGROUND
Trump’s Executive Order NSPM-7 signed last September—an egregious unconstitutional attack on freedom of speech and democracy—directed federal law enforcement to proactively hunt and arrest activists and organizations holding any views the administration disliked on migration, race, gender, religion, or economic fairness.
Now Trump’s demanding Congress appropriate $166.1 million to allow the FBI’s “Joint Mission Center,” to hire attorneys and special agents focused solely on identifying and targeting Americans for their beliefs.
DOJ’s indictment of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) for using informants to infiltrate extremist groups and gather information—which is precisely what the FBI does daily, even garnering material from the SPLC itself—is a prime example of Trump’s weaponization of our government against our own interests. “In a move [making] George Orwell’s Ministry of Truth blush,” it asserts that infiltrating and undermining violent extremist groups amounts to supporting them and ridiculously claims the SPLC defrauded its donors by doing so. “These actions, taken in reckless disregard of citizens’ constitutional rights represent a serious breach of DOJ’s duty to administer justice impartially and in accordance with the Constitution,” wrote Democratic Reps. Raskin and Scanlon, in launching an investigation of this travesty.
That any form of dissent—attending a rally, organizing locally, or merely expressing political views online—can be considered “domestic terrorism” under NSPM-7, opens the door for the FBI and DOJ to interfere with ICE protests and political activism leading up to the midterms.
Because it targets civil society, political opponents and dissent, the Joint Mission Center must never be funded.
