QUICK READ: Trump’s recent and unapologetic betrayal of Ukraine and capitulation to Russia –highly unpopular in Congress and among the American people—is his latest, and most egregious foreign policy disaster. His provision of aid and comfort to our enemy may also constitute treasonous behavior under Article III, Section 3, of the Constitution. Congress must use all tools at its disposal to nullify this behavior and reinstitute our full support for Ukraine’s righteous defense of its homeland.
CONTENTS:
BACKGROUND
Within the last several weeks, Trump’s dangerous, self-serving, and possibly treasonous behavior has radically undercut America’s support for Ukraine in its struggle against Russia’s unprovoked war, abruptly making Putin our friend and Ukraine our enemy:
On October 9, Trump lifted sanctions on the sale of Russian oil reserves and agreed to buy 36 million barrels of diesel, falsely claiming buying almost one-day’s worth of diesel would cause record-high prices to drop immediately while ignoring the infusion of funds desperately needed to keep Putin’s war alive.
Two days before overwhelmingly passed sanctions intended to further hamper Russia’s war effort went into effect, Trump blocked them, cynically claiming it necessary to keep Putin involved in ceasefire negotiations.
Trump and his trillionaire crony Elon Musk then colluded to degrade, and not yet completely restore, Musk’s Starshield satellite-communications system used to detect and intercept Russian drones, making the system inoperable during one of the worst Russian bombardments of the war which killed civilians and destroyed critical infrastructure.
Washington also called for Zelensky’s ouster and refused to permit Patriot missiles’ transfer to Ukraine from partner countries, leaving it few interceptors to defend itself.
While Russian officials cheered these actions, members of Congress were outraged.
Congress must use all tools available to reverse Trump’s betrayal of Ukraine and capitulation to Russia which severely undermine our national security interests and smack of treason. This debacle has also revealed how much power Elon Musk, a private citizen, has to intervene in a foreign conflict and make national security policy—which it’s Congress’ duty to eliminate.
ACTION One: Call the Senate.
