Actions
Make an impact in 2 minutes
have a big impact
Make a two-minute phone call to your U.S. Representative and your U.S. Senators and urge them to take specific action on a timely issue. We provide scripts to make it easy. Just select one of the Actions below to get started.
Why is this so important? Our phone calls fire up our Members of Congress, stiffen their spines, and push them to fight harder. We let them know that we're paying attention – and we have their back when they go out on a limb. Make sure to call your own U.S. Representative and both Senators – they are the ones who represent you!

FRIDAY RECAP: JUly 29, 2022
It’s the Dog Days but someone hit fast-forward on political news this week. Indivisible Oregon provides three — brief — Daily Actions each week that activists need to know.

Ukraine allies need to boost supply of Sophisticated Weapons
For some weeks now leaders in several Western capitals have floated the idea of a cease-fire as a first step toward ending the war in Ukraine, even as Putin has intensified the scale of the war and rejected serious negotiations unless Ukraine agrees to cede the Donbas region to Russia. President Zelenskyy has unequivocally rejected this “peace for land” formulation. In the face of Russia’s intransigence, NATO nations must double-down on their
military support for Ukraine and provide Kyiv with the sophisticated arms it needs to repel Russian aggression.

THE CLIMATE CRISIS AND CONTINUING GUN VIOLENCE CANNOT WAIT
Despite Biden’s campaign promises to attack the climate crisis and protect Americans from gun violence, the planet continues warming with catastrophic results. Meanwhile, children and adults are still dying from military assault weapons. And MAGA Republicans in the Senate and on the Supreme Court continue to block his ability to fight for the American people. Biden still has the power, however, to respond to the climate and gun crises with Executive Orders. Our Members of Congress must continue pressing him to immediately do so boldly.

“WE ARE NOT GOING BACK!!” – House Speaker Pelosi
Republican politicians tell their voters that they should be scared, and they use that fear to further divide the country. Democratic politicians, on the other hand, are trying to pass legislation that would help all Americans - making it easier to vote, legalizing abortion across the country, passing reasonable gun restrictions, and trying to pull us back from the brink of climate disaster. A majority of Americans want these things, but Republican politicians block them every time.

FRIDAY RECAP: JUly 22, 2022
The House committee investigating Jan. 6, demonstrated that Trump controlled the rioters who fought their way into the Capitol and searched for Vice President Pence. And only grudgingly did Trump agree to call them off. CATCH UP on these and other issues, then call your Member of Congress and get involved!

AMERICANS FLOOD CONGRESS WITH DONATIONS TO DEMOCRATS
TONIGHT: LISTEN OR WATCH THE “FINAL” JANUARY 6 HEARING. IT BEGINS AT 5 PM PACIFIC TIME.
The recent rulings from the MAGA Supreme Court, now packed with Trump’s justices, have announced a new era of judicial activism. The conservatives jettisoned abortion, took away the EPA’s cimate change authority, and undermined New York’s power to legislate gun safety. And these MAGA justices have their eyes on more cases that will solidify conservative policies in American life. Startled, Democrats have started to fight back, flooding Congress (especially the Senate) with blockbuster donations.

Political Violence Is Domestic Terrorism: We Must Treat It As A National Emergency
“[W]e need to quit mincing words and just talk about truths…[Jan. 6] was going to be an armed revolution….people died….gallows [were] set up in front of the Capitol.” So stated former Oath Keeper Jason Van Tatenhove at a recent hearing. Violent domestic militias and far-right political candidates are national emergencies that threaten democracy.

THE SUPREME COURT CANNOT HAVE THE LAST WORD ON REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM
President Biden must challenge the unpopular decisions imposed by the Supreme Court’s extremist supermajority with the only weapon at his disposal—bold Executive Orders reinstating, to the extent possible, rights the Court improperly took away or narrowed. The Executive Orders he issues must test the limits of his authority—to demonstrate clearly to the electorate what Democrats would do if allowed to govern after November. While this Daily Action focuses on access to abortion care, future ones will push for Executive Orders on guns and the climate crisis.

FRIDAY RECAP: JUly 15, 2022
Elections have consequences—which makes the upcoming midterms extremely important. Electing the right people will enable Congress to pass a budget that actually helps ordinary Americans, ensure that America’s foreign policy strengthens our relationships with other countries and international agencies and protects democracy abroad, allow President Biden to continue his policy of transforming the federal courts so they work to expand, not contract, our rights, and, most of all, neutralize the ability of the Senate’s MAGA Republican minority to block the progressive legislation coming out of the House.

DEMOCRATS MUST SPEED UP EXECUTIVE AND JUDICIAL CONFIRMATIONS
MAGA Republicans have been abusing the confirmation process to thwart Biden’s agenda and prevent him from governing effectively. Unless Senate Democrats speed up the process and force the GOP to give up part of its August recess, they won’t even be able to consider the 1,000+pending executive and judicial nominations before the November midterms. This will greatly hamper Biden’s ability to govern should Democrats lose their slim majorities.

Biden’s Foreign Policies Wins
President Biden’s productive foreign policies have defended democracy,
strengthened the Western alliance, and restored America’s standing in the Global
Community.

Build Back Slimmer Better Late Than Never
Amid uncertainty, vast uncertainty, Senate Democrats are frantically writing a national budget. It will be an anemic version of Biden’s 2021 Build Back Better wish list. That financial blueprint died when Sen. Manchin walked away from White House negotiations. He is now working with Schumer’s office, but even a “Manchin budget,” if there is one, will face an uncertain future.

FRIDAY RECAP: JUly 8, 2022
The far-right — a combination of the MAGA rabble, the extreme Christian Right, and billionaires — this week celebrated their capture of the Supreme Court. A stunning series of SCOTUS decisions announced that, after failing to win the Congress and White House, the extremists on the far right now have six of nine votes on the high court. Despite testimony during confirmation, the runaway Justices revealed they were not going to be bound by precedent nor the Constitution in its rush to remake America.

SCOTUS Is Using The Constitution to Reinforce White Supremacy, Patriarchy, and Heteronormativity
A recent set of judicial rulings concerning gun control, reproductive freedom, and the Environmental Protection Act (EPA) as well as several cases set to be heard next year about voting rights and affirmative action all negatively impact or outright attack the freedoms of BIPOC and women in the US.

THE AUDACIOUS SUPREME COURT GRABS NEW AUTHORITY
After the Supreme Court struck down abortion, it turned its attention to the regulating agencies that issue rules to fight climate change, to ensure drugs are safe and effective, and to protect worker safety. For years, corporations have been losing to the regulators, but the Supreme Court has just taken away that authority, thereby threatening the health and safety of everyone. As Lincoln once said when facing another runaway Supreme Court: “(T)he people will have ceased to be their own rulers.”
Why call your Members of Congress
Members of Congress have told us repeatedly that our calls matter. When they meet with their colleagues in Congress, they say "I'm getting swamped with calls about this illegal power grab. We need to take action."
If you're represented by Democrats: They are our best defense in Washington DC. They can throw sand in the gears of the Trump regime by using tools such as parliamentary procedures. And they have the power to call attention to particular issues via press, social media, special events. In short: our elected officials have power, and we must push them to wield it.
If you're represented by Republicans: Our calls let them know just how unpopular their actions are. We make them nervous, even if they don't show it. We make it hard for them to take actions that hurt Americans.
Calling tips
State your name, your zip code or neighborhood, and why you're calling
Stick to one issue per call
Don't worry about getting pulled into a debate -- the staffer will simply document your message.
Be respectful. The person on the other end of the line is likely a staffer who handles numerous calls daily. Being polite makes your message more likely to be heard and taken seriously.
Use personal stories when possible. When you share how an issue affects you personally, or why it matters to you, your message is more likely to resonate and be remembered.
