A Storm of Purpose, A Tide of Change
Welcome, dear readers! Every day I wake up wondering what the President and his regime will do next to hurt us and our country. Will it be lying to us again about his war of choice, or allowing ICE to shock innocent immigrants with electrified gloves? Will it be using executive orders to slash another vital benefit or agency that makes life easier for average Americans? Or will it be the ultimate blow—interfering with our right to vote? Sadly, this is not just a rhetorical ramble, but a small sampling of what we are facing daily. This deluge of cruel, and often illegal, actions is affecting our physical and emotional well‑being, our national safety, our standing in the world, and—closest to home—our pocketbooks.
Good people, this is not normal. Never before has there been this level of corruption and anti‑democratic malfeasance coming from the Oval Office. This rotten‑to‑the‑core administration is being enabled at every turn by elected Republicans and many self‑serving others. In times like these, it is easy to become discouraged and forget the immense power that we, the People, hold.
Recently, Harrison Ford gave a commencement speech in which he detailed his transformation from famous actor to passionate environmental activist. He described his awakening to a sense of purpose that fueled his understanding that he held the power to help the common good. He urged the graduates to recognize their own passions and power, and to consciously choose how they might use both. As they made that choice, he asked them to remember these words: “Passion + Purpose = Power.” That phrase not only rang true, but also seemed like a perfect rallying cry for the present moment.
My friends, if we have enough collective passion for political change, and find purpose in getting past what divides us so we can rise up with one voice, we have the power to end this national nightmare. Democratic Senate and House candidates vow to restore checks and balances, hold corrupt and complicit leaders accountable, and propose legislation that helps us—not billionaires. Notably, we are not hearing such vows from their irresponsible Republican challengers who, for two years, have supported the President’s every devastating action while completely failing us.
We hold the key to nothing less than our futures and the fate of the country. That key is the most massive voter turnout ever recorded. Plan to be part of history; plan to vote for an invigorated, people‑centered democracy on November 3rd.
