What Is America?

Local Fox News commentator Bill Cunningham recently interviewed right‑wing podcaster Wayne Allyn Root, who claimed that Donald Trump should declare an “election emergency” to “Save America” by preventing Democrats from winning Congress. If manipulating an election is what he calls “saving America,” then we must ask: What does he think America is?
If America is defined by democracy, then sabotaging an election doesn’t save our nation it shatters the very foundation that protects our families, our freedoms, and our future.
If America is the land itself, the breathtaking natural beauty we hope our children and grandchildren will inherit, then opening public lands near national parks to resource extraction destroys that legacy, not preserves it.
If America is the strength and character of its people, then dividing us against one another, neighbors, coworkers, families is not leadership. It is harm.
Perhaps Root imagines America as a place where power belongs only to wealthy white Christian men, where everyone else is expected to stay silent. That may be Donald Trump’s vision, but it is not the America millions of us believe in an America built from many races, many faiths, many families, all deserving safety, dignity, and opportunity.
Across this country, people are coming together parents, workers, caregivers, students to reject Trump’s dark vision and defend an America that is free, fair, and just. We have seen what oligarchy looks like. We have felt its impact on our communities, our economic security, and our ability to care for the people we love. We are not going back to the fear and chaos of 2016.
We are moving forward toward a future where people are valued not for the size of their fortunes but for their commitment to a government that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people. Together, we will hold accountable those who claim to “save America” while undermining the very things that keep our families safe, our economy stable, and our democracy alive.
This is our righteous fight for our children, for our communities, for the promise of a brighter American future.
