BACKGROUND
This month in America, a former heroin addict with a dead worm in his brain intensified his personal war against science. HHS Secretary, RFK Jr., cut $500 million from mRNA vaccine research, having already cancelled a $600 million Moderna bird flu contract in May based on personal feelings about the benefits of vaccines.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) recently questioned Kennedy about his war, finding it “weird…[that] you’ve got the AMA representing hundreds of thousands of doctors, the American Academy of Pediatrics, [and] the American Public Health Association…telling us that vaccines are safe and effective” and yet you doubt them all.
When Sanders asked him which organizations cast doubt on vaccine safety, Kennedy cited a few anti-establishment doctors—Marty Makary, Jay Bhattacharya, and Mehmet Oz—and then described the entire scientific establishment as corrupt, asserting he alone hasn’t been co-opted by pharmaceutical interests.
This, along with the firing of CDC Director Susan Monarz, compelled a wave of American health organizations and lawmakers to call for Kennedy’s resignation—300,000+ physicians from organizations like the American Public Health Association, Doctors for America, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the American College of Physicians, 1,000+ current and former HHS employees, and 9 former CDC directors.
Democrats have called Kennedy Jr. unfit to serve, noting his “reckless disregard for science and the truth” and his endangerment of our health—“particularly children, people with disabilities, and vulnerable Americans.”
Senator Patty Murray, D-WA promised: “[W]e cannot let RFK Jr. burn what’s left of the CDC. FIRE HIM.”
