IMPEACH KRISTI NOEM NOW

QUICK READ:  When a leader presides over preventable deaths and then tries to hide the truth, families don’t get answers, evidence disappears, those responsible keep their jobs, and the system stays deadly. Impeachment forces hearings, demands sworn testimony, and exposes truths powerful people want to keep buried. This is why Congress must hold Kristi Noem accountable for her agents’ brazen violence against immigrants and citizens alike.

BACKGROUND

In the last two weeks ICE/Border Patrol agents summarily executed two American citizens in cold blood. These deaths, which are acts of state violence by a paramilitary force against vulnerable people who cannot adequately defend themselves,  are the direct consequences of a federal enforcement strategy treating communities like battlefields, peopl like expendable statistics, and black and brown neighbors as animals to be hunted and eliminated.

Rather than decrying the violence and promising complete investigations, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem immediately blamed the victims, despite compelling video evidence to the contrary. Her inflammatory rhetoric and aggressive pursuit of Trump’s hardline agenda send a clear message to her agents that brutality’s rewarded, restraint’s weakness, and following the law’s unnecessary.

During Noem’s tenure as DHS Secretary, she’s lied to Congress and the American public, violated citizens constitutional rights, secretly instituted illegal policies, ignored court orders allowing Congresspeople to visit ICE detention facilities, and turned ICE and Border Patrol into a lawless paramilitary force focused on terrorizing communities, immigrants, and US citizens. She’s also clearly demonstrated she won’t reform DHS or accept responsibility for deadly failures on her watch.

A week after Renee Good’s murder, Rep. Robin Kelly (D-Ill), with 80 co-sponsors—including Oregon Reps. Bonamici, Dexter, and Hoyle—introduced articles of impeachment against Noem for obstructing Congress, violating the public trust, and self-dealing (H.Res. 996).

Following Alex Pretti’s murder on Saturday, that number jumped to 140, almost 2/3 of the Democratic Caucus.

If Congress fails to act, it’ll send a clear message that DHS leadership can violate rights, obstruct oversight, and preside over deadly outcomes without consequences. We cannot let this happen.

ACTION One: Call the Senate.

Script for Oregon Senators

SEN. MERKLEY: Portland office: 503-326-3386 | D.C. office: 202-224-3753

My name is [--] and I'm a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

Senators must remain strong in their resolve to stop ICE’s illegal terrorizing campaign against us all. Otherwise, more innocent people will die. At a minimum hold out for: (1) ICE and Border Patrol must leave Minneapolis and stop terrorizing residents of US cities; (2) All murders and other ICE-caused deaths since January 20, 2024, if found unlawful, must be fully and independently investigated and prosecuted; (3) Agents must be unmasked and wear identification and body cameras; DHS must eliminate racial profiling, militarized deployments, arrest quotas, roving patrols, show-your-papers operations, and warrantless arrests not supported by judicial findings of probable cause; (4) DHS must immediately stop detaining and deporting US citizens and must ensure their return home. You must also consider demanding repeal of the reconciliation bill’s provision of $75 billion for ICE and of ICE itself which has become rotten to the core.

This should not be a partisan moment. These agents are untrained, unaccountable, and eager to kill again. Can you live with more innocent people dying?

ACTION TWO: Call the House.

Oregon office: 503-469-6010 | DC office: 202-225-0855

Thank you for being one of the original co-sponsors of Rep. Kelly’s articles of impeachment (H.Res.996), introduced to put a stop to Kristi Noem’s disastrous tenure as DHS Secretary. The human rights violations committed by ICE and Border Control agents under her leadership threaten everyone living in the United States. Despite being in the minority, you must do everything in your power to keep shining a light on Noam’s deadly mismanagement of DHS—both for colleagues and the American people—until a majority of members sign on. But, even if unsuccessful for the remainder of the 119th Congress, co-sponsoring these impeachment articles clearly tells the American people you stand with them.

As far as I can tell, you are not supporting H.Res. 996, Rep. Kelly’s articles of impeachment, introduced to put a stop to Kristi Noem’s disastrous tenure as DHS Secretary. The human rights violations committed by ICE and Border Control agents under her leadership threaten everyone living in the United States, and co-sponsoring the impeachment articles tells your constituents you stand with them. These agents are untrained, unaccountable, and eager to kill again. Can you live with more innocent people dying?
