TRUMP’S CORRUPTION: NO FUNDING FOR HIS UNCONSTITUTIONAL IRAN WAR
QUICK READ: There can be no extra funding for Trump’s catastrophic war, since the Constitution gives Congress no power to fund behavior violating its provisions. Agreeing to fund Trump’s war after voting for the War Powers Resolutions would demonstrate to the American people that this first vote was performative only, the Constitution is a meaningless document, and funding this gruesome war is more important than protecting our children from senseless deaths and our neighbors from a worsening affordability crisis.
CONTENTS:
BACKGROUND
Trump’s 11-day unconstitutional war’s already had disastrous consequences:
Obliterating 160+, almost all children, in bombing a girl’s elementary school;
Killing thousands of Iranian civilians and untold others in the region;
7 American service members already dead;
Burning through $5.6 billion in advanced weaponry in the first 2 days;
Spending roughly $1billion/day of taxpayer money to carpet bomb Iran;
Disrupting global shipping and causing the worst global energy crisis since the 1970’s;
Creating a regional conflict with no foreseeable end;
Causing rapidly rising oil prices—further worsening America’s affordability crisis, while seeking billions more from Congress.
Although almost all Democrats voted unsuccessfully to enforce the Constitution, some now worry about harming our service members, forgetting both they’ve no power to fund unconstitutional activities and can best protect our service members by bringing them home immediately—which Trump will then have to do.
Congressional Democrats, though powerless to force Trump to follow the Constitution, which gives Congress the exclusive right to declare war, can bring it to a rapid end, if remaining united, because Senate supplemental funding passage requires 60 votes.
Trump’s unconcern for the Constitution stems directly from Congress’ past enabling—its failure to stop his prior attack on Iran, bombing of small boats in the Caribbean, military “adventure” in Nigeria, invasion of Venezuela and the kidnapping of its President—all of which violated the UN Charter, the US Constitution, and US law.
If Congress funded Trump’s illegal war, they’d be rewarding Trump for his misbehavior.
It can only end Trump’s penchant for war by refusing to fund it.

Thank you for voting once again to prevent Trump from going to war without Congressional authorization. Although unsuccessful, the Pentagon’s upcoming supplemental request gives you the chance to bring Trump’s war of choice to a rapid end, if all Democrats remain united. Please convince wavering colleagues that Congress can’t fund unconstitutional activities and they can best support our troops by bringing them home immediately. Trump’s war puts Americans in harm’s way and worsens America’s affordability crisis—which can best be reversed if the billions funding Trump’s war instead funded the food stamps, healthcare, housing, and other necessities Trump and his GOP lackeys slashed last summer.

Although you took an oath to support the Constitution, you allow Trump to violate it with impunity over and over again. How can you let Trump bully you again? Don’t you know that schoolyard bullies like Trump can only be stopped if you start standing up to them? Don’t you care about the carnage Trump’s war is causing in the Middle East and the misuse of taxpayer funds to support it? What about your constituents’ children being sent overseas to die to support Trump’s vanity? Or the fact that this war violates both national and international law? You are not working for your constituents and you do not deserve your government paycheck. I will be voting to oust you in the next election.
ACTION TWO: Call the House.
