***IMMEDIATE ACTION***What about the Constitution : Stop Trump’s Threatened War on cuba now [03-12-26]
As the Trump administration celebrates its extremely unpopular war against Iran, Donald Trump, already bored, is saber-rattling again—this time threatening “a friendly takeover” of Cuba, an objective long sought by Marco Rubio, son of Cuban immigrants.
Trump’s been threatening Cuba’s sovereignty since December, when he imposed an unlawful oil embargo--seizing oil tankers headed there, threatening tariffs on any nation selling it oil, and forcing a halt to Mexico’s oil shipments. On January 6, by invading Venezuela and taking control of its petroleum industry, Trump eliminated Cuba’s main oil supplier. Then, on January 29, Trump issued another of his unsupported executive orders, declaring Cuba an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to the US—the same rationale used to invade Venezuela.
Trump’s economic warfare’s been devastating. Cuba’s economy is on the brink of collapse, electricity blackouts occur daily, and public transportation, the health system, sanitation service, and schools are barely functioning.
Ominously, Trump’s DOJ last week announced plans to prosecute Cuba’s leaders for unspecified crimes. An indictment, no matter how flimsy, could then be used to justify a Maduro-style snatch-and-grab operation.
That no military hostilities have yet begun allows Congress to finally exercise its war power proactively, as the Constitution and American law require—rather than having to play catch up.
MAGA Republicans stood by when Trump illegally declared war against Venezuela and Iran—expensive wars Americans don’t want and for which they’ll suffer politically. To prevent a similar war with Cuba, our MoCs must push for war powers resolutions in both Houses. The stakes—both here and abroad—are too great not to stop this petty bully in his tracks once and for all.
