QUICK READ: Unless Congress immediately brings Trump’s unconstitutional unprovoked war of choice to an end before American troops are ordered into Iran on an extremely expensive fool’s mission doomed to fail, Trump’s deadly delusions and wishful thinking will cost the lives of many American sons and daughters, devastate the US and global economies, impoverish American workers and farmers, balloon the deficit, further destroy America’s safety network, and demonstrate to the world that the US has become its primary source of instability.

BACKGROUND

Trump and Hegseth get their jollies inflicting violence and destruction on other countries. Seeking another sugar high after their Venezuelan success, they joined the Israelis’ war against Iran—without a coherent rationale, public debate, Congress’ authorization, or an exit strategy.

While expecting a swift victory with only token Iranian resistance, followed by the regime’s collapse and the installation of a tolerable government, they got, instead, a larger regional conflict with casualties in every Middle Eastern country, and Iran as a formidable opponent. Unlike other invaded countries, Iran’s successfully retaliating militarily—striking a US F-35 over Iranian airspace, hitting energy facilities in 6 US-allied Gulf states, forcing evacuation of American military facilities, and threatening to destroy neighbors’ desalination plants if Trump attacks its energy infrastructure. 

Also unanticipated was Iran’s ability to trigger a global energy crisis by closing the Strait of Hormuz to its enemies’ ships—gas prices and costs of living skyrocketing, farmers lacking fertilizer, and billions in windfall profits for Russian and Iranian oil tankers after Trump lifted sanctions, hoping to alleviate the crisis.

Trump’s now desperate to end the war, but Iran won’t cooperate. To force negotiations, he’s deployed 10,000 additional troops—which would allow him to start a ground war to prevent being labeled “a loser.” 

From the moment this happens, casualties climb rapidly beyond the 13 Americans already killed and over 300 wounded, the mission expands to protect the mission, and, Congress, fearful of abandoning our troops, funds another endless Middle Eastern war.

Our MoCs cannot let this scenario, which nearly 3/4 of Americans oppose, play out. They must convince colleagues to stop this inevitable carnage before it’s too late.
