STOP TRUMP’S ATTEMPTS TO SUBVERT THE 2026 MIDTERM ELECTIONS
QUICK READ: Trump’s attempts to take control of our independent state-run elections systems in order to lock in his power and escape accountability for his misdeeds and unpopular agenda are an existential threat to our democracy. Congress must do everything in its power to protect the 2026 midterm elections from Trump’s unconstitutional interference aimed at suppressing the vote and undermining the will of the voters.
CONTENTS:
BACKGROUND
Since returning to office, Trump has seized unprecedented executive power to implement his extremist agenda most Americans reject. To lock in his power and escape accountability, he’s resurrected the discredited myth of widespread election fraud to justify the implementation of 15 interlocking pre- and post-election interference tactics unconstitutionally aimed at subverting the will of the voters by suppressing the vote and undermining the outcome of the midterms.
The Constitution, however, gives presidents zero authority over elections. Instead, it explicitly gives that authority to the state (with Congress as a backstop), requiring presidents to respect, and defer to, the states’ constitutional role in conducting elections.
Because Democrats are in the minority, they cannot pass legislation to stop Trump’s unconstitutional election interference behavior, but they are not powerless. They can, and must:
· Propose and push for hearings on such legislation as the Protect Our Polls Act (prohibiting military or federal law enforcement at polls), the SHIELD Our Elections Act (preventing unlawful interference or intimidation and seized ballots), and the Voting Systems Protection Act (protecting election workers);
· Continue opposing the SAVE Act;
· Condemn the DOJ’s unlawful seizure of state voter records and Trump’s unconstitutional calls to nationalize the election
· Serve as messengers and organizers to prepare the public and their state and local counterparts to act as necessary to ensure election integrity;
· Use their bully-pulpit to expose GOP legislators as Trump’s anti-democratic sycophants who disrespect the Constitution and, thus, must be defeated in November.
ACTION One: Call the Senate.
